Scouting For Food

Do you know about Scouting for Food?  It’s been a project of the BSA for decades!


One of Scouting’s foundational principles is “doing a good turn daily.”  Scouts at all levels of our program participate in good turns and service projects.  Some of these are for a rank advancement, the most famous being the Eagle Scout project.  Others are being good citizens or environmental programs to make our neighborhoods and communities a better place to live in.


Scouts go out on one weekend (in 2017, October 21), place bags on the doors of their neighbors, and come back the next week (in 2017, October 28) to pick up the food and take it to a local food bank.  Bags will be distributed at District Roundtables in October and will be available at the Council Service Center in Waynesboro after Roundtables. 


Once you have completed your collection on October 28, please fill out the Unit Report & Patch Order form and turn it in to your District Scouting For Food Chairman no later than your District's November Roundtable. As part of the Journey to Excellence, sharing your service project and logging it into the national toolbox  is important.  The Council uses this to let the nation know how much service our Scouts return to our communities.
